Will High Gas Prices Ever Go Down?
Believe it or not, with the economy being the way it is right now, high gas prices will be staying at where it is for a long time.
Gasoline price is a hot topic these days leaving people to wonder will gas prices ever go down. Even if small price cuts are possible, a return to reasonable gas prices doesn’t look likely. With the latest economic downturn, the price of gas is rapidly leaving the reach of hard-working individuals who haven’t seen a pay raise to match the ever-rising cost of everyday goods.
One source of hope is that as demand for gasoline drops from people traveling less, and cars becoming more efficient with new fuels appearing on the horizon, supply and demand factors will consequently keep prices stable, even if on the high side.
One reason that prices of gas will remain high is that refineries will need to spend billions of dollars finding new ways to refine gasoline to burn more cleanly to be in compliance with stricter emissions standards and modernizing their facilities. They also have to train personnel and to conduct research and development for future advances.
Will the government step in and get gas prices in check? Probably not, there is too much money at stake, not too mention too many political agendas to keep an eye on. So while the prices of everything in the United States skyrockets due to the cost of fuel it is up to the people to make the difference to answer the question will gas prices ever go down.
Rising prices will make people drive less and be more frugal with their money which will impact the economy negatively. As food becomes more expensive, people tend to buy more unhealthy processed foods with lower price tags, resulting in more health issues. This in turn could trigger larger insurance premiums and bigger health care bills. People will need to start planning and consolidating trips to maximize fuel economy and efficiency.
The thing that people need to do most is voice their opinions. Not with a neighbor or coworker but with their elected officials. Write them, call them, email them, your taxes pay their salary so they are on your payroll. Unfortunately big oil companies may hold great sway with our elected leaders, but only many voices as one can initiate the changes needed.
It seems unlikely that gas prices will ever fall to reasonable levels. However, the groundswell of people seeking change may force our nation’s leaders to devise strategies to keep prices from rising further and affirmatively address the issue of will gas prices ever go down?
Obviously it’s high time that we took the initiative to get things arranged for our own benefits, rather than just wait for the economy to take care of itself in God know when.
