It is not uncommon for people to compare different alternative fuels.. In fact, that is about the only way to find out which one is the best. You want to find out what alternative fuel is going to save you the most money and be the best for your vehicle and the earth.

You have to look at many different factors. Do not make a choice blindly just because it seems to be what everyone else is doing. Study the facts on hand so you can decide more objectively.

Compressed Natural Gas

One alternative fuel is CNG or otherwise known as Compressed Natural Gas. This type of alternative fuel is commonly available in California, although it can be found randomly throughout the United States. Only CNG vehicles can use CNG as a fuel source. Home based production is possible through a special unit available mostly from manufacturers of CNG vehicles.

The negative feedback is that CNG emits high levels of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.Also it is less powerful than regular fuel. CNG, however, is more affordable compared to any other fuel alternative.

A look at Biodiesel

Biodiesel is made from vegetable oil, lye and ethanol. It is a safe fuel that does not have the high risk of explosion or fire. It runs smoothly offering the same power as regular diesel provides. Biodiesel can also run any diesel vehicle.

Biodiesel can be sourced out from gas stations around the country. home-made bio diesel is also possible. Biodiesel burns clean and produces no emissions.

The Bottom Line

Between CNG and Biodiesel, the latter appears to be more user friendly. Moreover supply is more accessible. You do not have to purchase equipment to produce your supply. You can use common everyday items and easy to get supplies to make biodiesel at home if you want to make it yourself.

Biodiesel is also much safer. It is not going to pollute the air It also will not reduce the power your vehicle has so you will not notice the switch to an alternative fuel.

CNG may be fine for people who live in California where it is available or who have the money to buy a CNG vehicle. For the majority of people who do not live in California and can not afford to buy a CNG vehicle or the CNG equipment to refuel, biodiesel is a much better choice.
