Lots Hardware

Are certain hardware not compatible with certain motherboards?
I've been thinking of replacing a lot of the old hardware in my computer for some new ones. This is probably going to include my current motherboard. (along with video/sound card, processor, etc).
So I just wanted to check, if I'm free to just chuck in the best affordable pieces of hardware onto my new motherboard without any worries of compatibility issues. Any advice?
Nope. Don't do it.
-You need to find a processor that has the applicable socket for your motherboard.
-RAM has to be the correct type and has to have the same clock speeds.
-Graphics cards have different slot types and your motherboard may not have all of them
-You have to ensure you have the correct amount of cooling and space
-ETC, ETC, ETC.
The absolute last thing you want to do is just start buying parts without checking their compatibility first.
